Our most important job at the moment is to support our new members as they start their journey on the Big Uke freight train.
Having said that, I think it’s time we began adding a little more sophistication to our performances. We sound great a lot of the time but we create a little magic when we add a few little bells and whistles. For instance Dirty old Town with the harmonica solo…. Galway Girl when we get it right with the tin whistles… Blame it on the boogie with the dance moves… Budapest with Theresa picking solo… the acappella opening to the Do run run. I think it’s worth having a discussion about instrumentation, introductions and instrumental breaks and making more of our vocal talents. I don’t expect everybody to peel off blistering solos or heart wrenching 6 part harmonies with every song we play but taking a few steps away from everybody playing everything all of the time might be interesting, challenging and satisfying. - D2.
